Your Role

As the CTO/Director of Engineering, you will be the champion of the engineering team for continuous improvement to processes, and standards-based on current and planned development needs.

You’ll be constantly learning and constantly teaching, expanding your skills across the stack and bringing organization, agile methodology, and methods to the team. Working in a fast-paced, flexible, start-up environment; we welcome your adaptability, organization, passion, grit, and creativity.

Main Responsibilities

  • Work with HR, to recruit, coach, develop, and lead the engineering team to ensure organization, department, and individual goals are met.
  • Ensure engineers spend 10-20% of their backlogs on Non-functional requirements, automation of CI/CD pipelines, automation of testing, and Technical Debt Management
  • Ensure Engineering teams have 3-4 weeks worth of refined backlog in each area
  • Collaborate with Product and Tech Leads to estimate work efforts, design project plans, define milestones and manage resources accordingly while driving adherence and compliance with deadlines on deliverables as assigned to projects (including the maintenance of necessary documentation)
  • Work with CEO and product managers to organize technical project work into manageable groups (project phases and work breakdown) and determine an effective approach for completing the work, ensuring that appropriate timing, resources, and sequencing of the work efforts are aligned to produce the desired results within the project schedule
  • Provide options and backup strategies as required to mitigate any effect to clients, ensure Senior Leadership, business stakeholders, and the broader organization are in the know regarding project statuses, risks and timelines
  • Establish and instill development best practices, including robust QA, Cyber Security, end-user feedback, and processes to engage and support company stakeholders. Push team to evaluate edge cases, encourage innovation, and design with testing in mind.

About You

  • Fluent in English
  • You have experience developing and deploying applications quickly, and enjoy the iterative and creative nature of product exploration
  • You have excellent experience designing, building, and/or managing systems in the cloud (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure)
  • You enjoy context switching between various work streams to tackle a variety of challenges; changing priorities in a startup environment aren’t a bug – it’s a feature!
  • You have a track record of learning new technologies and languages on the job
  • You have a great attitude and ability to work in a fast paced, collaborative environment is a must
  • You have a B.S. or higher degree in Computer Science or 7+ years of relevant experience
  • You have 7-10 years of experience demonstrating strong leadership, organization skills, and people management skills.
  • You have 5+ years of experience in a hands-on, product-centric engineering role.
  • You have 5+ years of experience leading other engineering leaders.
  • You have deep experience in a modern development stack (see below). Google Big Query Google Compute Engine Airflow CI/CD: We use GitHub Actions Docker Experience working with a business intelligence tool (e.g., PowerBI, Looker, Tableau, etc.) core tenants of the Python data science stack: SQL, pandas, scikit-learn, etc.
  • You have experience practicing Agile development methodology and experimentation You have experience working with Project Management software (JIRA, Asana)
  • You have top-notch organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects / meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • You have experience thriving in a startup environment and are energized to do it again.
  • Experience (3 + years) using modern systems and processes.

  • London, New-York, Milan or Zurich (partial work-from-home / remote is available)
